Texture Highlighted

The addition of a layer of soft gel mixed with iridescent gold, over a glaze of blue, brings out the texture. It reminds me of wet sand at the beach, mysterious marks made by creatures of all sorts.

Wings and Sky Today

The light is very yellow, but the wings and sky look good. The gel plus interference gold on the wings turned out to be a bit opaque, but that is not a big deal. The sky looks softer and more luminous, which pleases me. Today I added some shiny ribbons of Clear Tar Gel on the osprey, so that he is not flat against a dimensional sky.

Wings and Sky

Working into the Textures
As in the painting "To Make Gold, You Must Take Gold", I am going over the sky texture with soft gel (gloss), mixed in this case with Interference Blue (Fine). I like how the texture gets softened with the gel draped over the chunks.

On the wings, I am using Clear Tar Gel and Interference Gold (Fine) to go over areas that are not unified. In some cases, there is a hard edge on the acrylic skin, and in some cases, the skin is so thick it has crevices in it. I hope this will resolve those issues.

Ba - Painting of Steve

Ancient Egyptian Concept of the Soul

This project will require sealing the wooden substrate before I can add paint or collage. I am waiting for my sealant (GAC-100) to be delivered, but meanwhile ... I wanted to see if this image would fit. When my mother-in-law died, I felt her spirit at the gravesite, as a bluejay. Then when Steve died, a bluejay visited me just outside my computer room window. That did not happen before or since, so I felt it was Steve visiting me in soul form. The ancient Egyptians considered the Ba to be the form the soul takes after death: a bird with the head of the deceased.
