The hexagram talks about how clouds have risen into the sky but still there is no rain. Waiting for rain ... the opposite of my outer life circumstances, hehe.

I Ching Themed Paintings

Darkening of the Light

Inner Truth

Both of these paintings are 22"H x 30"W, on heavy watercolor paper, with collage additions. They both refer to hexagrams in the traditional English translation of the I Ching, "Darkening of the Light" means being cautious and reserved in times of darkness. "Inner Truth" shows the open heart, empty and receptive to the truth.

Untitled (for now)

This 22"x30" acrylic painting on paper is based on a couple of small paintings from a group of small sketches.

This was a sort of warm-up project. I used Teal, Indian Yellow Hue and Quinacridone Crimson plus black and white to create these. I was not sure how they would look until I removed the tape. Some were okay, and two of them I really loved, so I used those two as inspiration for this painting.

These two really stood out for me, and I wanted to use them to inspire a larger painting.

This was my first layer. It is stiff and almost all the shapes are rectangles. I knew I had to change that, and the stage above is the result. It still needs some line, and I will continue working on it until it blossoms.

Flat and Chunky

Color Swatches

These 8"x8" paintings were collaged and I had set them aside. Today I decided to paint over the collaged shapes with the color scheme above, and I just love the result. It is rough, chunky, flat(ish), and bright, just like me! Hehe well sorta.

These are 6"x4" each, cut from a 22"x30" sheet of gessoed watercolor paper. The swirly blue and violet areas are gel printed. The white splashes are white fluid acrylic.

Concertina Tune

A spread in my new concertina sketchbook, made from two of the small paintings I did a few days ago. I added a few collage items. Kinda fun.

Innocence and Experience

Watercolor sketchbook. I love these small paintings so I collaged them into my sketchbook and added elements. I could never throw these away yet they were not finished artwork.

A first attempt at combining paint, collage, and stenciling. Apparently Nikola Tesla thought 3, 6 and 9 were extremely important. I love those numbers, so I included them in this sketchbook page. It may change in the future. This is a page in my 12"x9" watercolor sketchbook.
