Little Paintings on the Floor

Small (6x6x1/8") wood panels with collage on them, lying on my studio floor drying and curing. Acrylic and paper.

Cardboard Decorations

I painted these on corrugated cardboard from a shipping box I received. They had those great holes (except for that little square one). I painted them dark green, dark red, blue-green or purple and then stenciled gold patterns on them. Not sure what I will do with them!

Dancer Pair Again

"Dancer II"

I changed the background on Dancer II to a deep red to set off the greenish circles. Dancer I has stayed the same, though it might be better if the background was lighter. Still pondering.

"Dancer II"

"Dancer I" is a work in progress. I have not used the grid as a composition much.

This painting is mixed media (Acrylic and paper on cradled wood panel), 12x12x1.5".

Grid Experiments

This is a grid mask superimposed on my collage sketchbook pages. Some of them are not wide enough to fill all the squares, but the grid makes them even more interesting than they were alone. More experimenting to do with this, but kinda fab.

Had to Finish!

I finally tore out the remaining pages in this sketchbook because it had become so fat. I am amazed how much my collage work has changed between April of 202 and today.

"Playtime" in Virtual Setting

"Playtime" is an unframed acrylic collage painting on canvas, 24x36". Here you can see how it would look in a room setting, with a frame.  The painting is available through my website

Moon Phases

This is an older painting that has gone through many different incarnations. I had put the moon phases in it, collaged, on top of a painted sky background. It just did not work, so I added inkjet prints of recent collage paintings. Now I love how it looks and maybe it is the beginning of a new phase for me. "Moon Phases", 12x48", acrylic and paper on canvas.

Almost the End of This Sketchbook ...

... and I will not get another book like this one because the pages are too thin to hold all the collage papers without curling. My work developed quite a lot during the time I worked in this book though. I will do a YouTube flip-through once I do the final page. The bottom image is the cropped version. It loses some of the edge detail but it is still a very nice image.

Dark Sketchbook Spread

Spread cropped to a rectangle is still pretty nice. I am calling it "Donuts"

Sketchbook Spread -- Postcard Art from 2020

I got the idea for art postcards from a Jane Davies video on YouTube. I created both these paintings on 8x12" watercolor paper and cut them into four 4x6" postcards. Now the images are backgrounds for collage art. I enjoy recycling images I made in the past.

Sketchbook collage with stamping

This collage page was created using inkjet prints of older collages, and then stamped with my new carved rubber stamps and black paint. I also applied a stamp on tissue paper, and the tissue almost completely disappeared. The tissue stamp is on the lower left.

Untitled: Stamps on Collage

This sketchbook page was created using inkjet prints of older collages, then I used my new carved stamps to print with acrylic paint that was harmonious with the colors in the piece.

Cave Art

The background on this sketchbook spread is Quinacridone Gold, a couple of brayer wipes, and then a gel print over them, which picked up the underlying paint. Then I used my new rubber stamps with Distress Ink in the color called Peacock Feathers. The random marks on the left-hand page are from a block of wood with rubber bands around it, dipped in black paint, and the white marks are also paint. I am not sure how this can be integrated into the current direction of my work, but it appeals to me.

Yellow Monochrome Spread in Art Journal Today

A lot of the image area is lost when I crop these images. The pages are very curly, and I want a rectangular image, but the book will be much richer if and when I finish it and do a flip-through on YouTube.

Art Journal 7-2-22

I am enjoying doing these art journal spreads in my smaller (8 1/2" x 5 1/2") sketchbook. I have been using glue sticks lately, because they warp the paper less. They supposedly last a long time. We shall see.

So the spread is actually two pages, and that adds up to 8 1/2 x 11". My collaging is more and more satisfying to me. The color theme today is yellows, from yellow-green to yellow-orange.
