See-Through Acrylic Skins!

This small piece (6"x6") is acrylic on wood panel. It was originally titled "Red Alcohol Study", when I experimented with alcohol drips into fresh acrylic paint. The collage pieces are acrylic skins, which are made by applying acrylic to a smooth surface, letting it dry, and peeling it up. These particular skins were made with gel with drips of paint on it. The gel did not turn clear for a long time.

The background was the red image to the left; I collaged acrylic skins onto it, which were still white because they were drying and curing. Now they are clear, giving the entire image a very different look.

"Marble" is now "Unified Field"

"Unified Field"
This painting has gone through some intense metamorphoses! Because I had put in darks, I put in some lighter colors, including stark white and stark black. I knocked back the black areas with a deep blue green, and then I felt it needed to be more unified, so I looked at the collage pieces again and saw that one color that runs through many of them is a sort of peachy tan. I put in a glaze of peachy tan, and wiped it back. I put in some touches of white and they popped the places that were less interesting. It may or may not be finished. I have to look at it for a while.

Two Phases of "Marble"

pink phase
I worked on this painting and added layer upon layer of pink and soft green, which made the background very soft and sweet. The collage images were then unrelated to the background. Then I worked into the background with the colors from the collage pieces, and the result is below.

"Marble"

"Marble", finished and ready for the collage pieces.
This piece is somewhat disorganized. I started with tissue paper attached to the wood panel, and painted onto it, then did an alcohol sprinkling layer, which changed the entire piece. It is vein-y and intense, though still laking a true focal point. I put a layer of GAC 800 on it and below you see it as it is today.

Collage pieces attached but not yet incorporated into the piece.
This is a visual test to decide on placement.
The addition of the GAC 800 gave the colors more depth. I temporarily attached the collage pieces, which were the inspiration for the entire work, to look at it and decide if this is where they should go, and if they are all to be part of the finished piece.
